Jong H. Bhak is the director of KOBIC (Korean Bioinformation Center), the representative national bioinformatics center, at KRIBB (Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology). He received his BSc. Honours in biochemistry from Aberdeen University in 1994 and his Ph.D. in BioInformatics from Cambridge University in 1997.
Bhak is perhaps the first doctorate to compose and publish a thesis entirely online and is an advocate of openfree exchange of knowledge and information. He has proposed various openfree bio-projects under the BioLicense scheme (http://biolicense.org). In 2003, Bhak returned to Korea after working at MRC, Harvard, and EBI, in order to combine Korea's strong IT with emerging BT (biotech) to accelerate research development in Korea. Bhak has founded a biological philosophy, Biosophy (http://biosophy.org), Bhak has published a few worth reading research papers in the bioinformatics field.
