The phenotype of aging.
Gerotype is the characteristic aging state of a biological system, defined by its position and trajectory within age-related regulatory, epigenetic, metabolic, and cellular state spaces.
It captures how an organism is aging, not merely how old it is, by integrating molecular aging clocks, regulatory network configurations, immune and metabolic profiles, and functional resilience.
In this sense, a gerotype represents a computational and dynamical phenotype of aging, reflecting the degree and pattern of drift from developmental or homeostatic attractor states.
Different individuals can share the same chronological age but exhibit distinct gerotypes, corresponding to different aging speeds, vulnerabilities, and reversibility potentials.
Gerotype can be said a hallmark of aging. (I do not like the term hallmark for aging as it is not a technical enough term for science)
In one sentence:
Gerotype is the systems-level signature and phenotype of aging that encodes the mode, pace, and reversibility of biological aging.
